Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor
Reports to: Nurse/RN Supervisor
General Purpose:
The Registered Nurse Supervisor is the head of the clinical team. He or she is responsible to ensure that patient care is conducted as per the plan of care, assesses and provides care within the scope of their educational preparation and knowledge; guided by the Nurse Practice Act, annotated Code of Maryland Regulations Title 10, subtitles 27, 39. They shall always abide by local, state and federal guidelines and the agency’s rules and regulations as presented in the handbook.
Minimum Requirements:
• Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Licensing: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse with active license in the state of Maryland.
• Training and experience: At least three years practicing as a nurse. One year of current experience within the last three years must be direct care to pediatrics patients.
• Must possess the requisite job knowledge (Skills check list shall be administered)
• Maintenance of current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for HealthCare Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for HealthCare workers.
• Educated (Agency will train) on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
Essential Functions:
• Delegate and assign duties to the nursing staff (RN, LPN and CNA/HHA and CMT) as required.
• Perform direct clinical care duties
• Conduct monthly supervision visits for RNs and LPNs and biweekly supervision of CNA/HHAs in the patient/recipient’s home.
• Conduct unannounced supervision visit.
• Fill out supervision log; write report and submit to the administrator.
• Contact the back-up nursing service to replace staff in the event of a call out.
• Prepare, in collaboration with other team members, an initial health evaluation and individualized plan of care for the patient.
• Monitor patient health and update care plan accordingly.
• Educate/train staff and caregivers
• Monitor patient recordkeeping activities for accuracy, completion, and compliance with all regulations.
• Develop education programs, contribute to staff professional development, interview and hire nurses and medical staff.
• Communicate with physicians, social workers or other health advisors.
• Oversee the maintenance and inventory of medical equipment.
• Participate in the Quality Assurance committee.

The RN supervisor will receive or have access to information about patient/client medical records (“Patient Information”), all of which is confidential property. The Health Care Professional agrees to keep all Patient Information in strictest confidence at all times. At no time during or after work status will the Health Care Professional use or disclose to any person any Patient Information made available to them in the course of their work status. Immediately upon the termination of work status, or upon request by the agency, the RN will return all Patient Information and other materials or property in their possession, including all copies thereof, in whatever form they exist. Violation of confidentiality is cause for disciplinary action, including immediate termination.
